I’ve been super busy lately, but you won’t hear me complainin’! I love this season of life, and I wish I could hit the slow speed on life and live every moment twice. Do you ever wish life had buttons like a DVD player? I need a slo mo button.
So here’s what’s up at the boybarian homestead.
- Trouble has grown 3 inches this year. He finally hit 30 pounds. Anyone want to cheer wildly with me? Problem is I need desperate help finding pants. This isn’t just a case of slim. He needs a 2t waist and a 4t length. The 4ts with the elastic waists are still too big. This poor boy is in ankle waders. Someone must know of itty bitty long pants.
- Are you going to the Blissdom ‘10 Conference? Tickets went on sale this week and I’ve been getting lots of emails with inquiries. I’d love to know if you’re going. Southwest Airlines happens to be selling $25, $50, $75 and $100 flights right now during the window of the conference. They don’t fly from Des Moines, but I hope it helps someone.
- Can’t make it to Nashville? The I-Blog Conference is coming up, Nov 14-15 in beautiful, historic Perry, Iowa. It’s an intimate conference (read, small in its freshman year!) but it is in one of the midwest’s most beautiful hotels. Oh, and I will be speaking. You can come whisper in the back row and giggle if you want. But don’t miss it. I’ll be answering all your blog design and blog photo questions. Other topics include: dealing with tax, income and the FCC and your blog. Writing, blogging, photography and design. There will be prizes and give-aways. Oh, and did you know that Hotel Pattee has created a custom drink for the event? Yes, the Blogini! My adorable husband, from Boybarian Photo will be there to offer professional head shots for your social media profiles. It includes 3 meals. All this for $75. What a steal!

- It’s one of my favorite times of year over at The Homeschool Post. It’s homeschool blog award time! I love this time of year, because I inevitably find an amazing resource, a witty writer and someone who posts beautiful photos. So there are 25 different categories. Who is your favorite homeschool mom? Who posts the most beautiful photos? Whose blog design just rocks? Go nominate your favorites! Nominations close in 2 days and voting will begin soon. Post authors, including myself, aren’t eligible to win. But YOU are. Rosetta Stone, blog makeovers, photo art canvases… great prizes for worthy bloggers.
- Boys are taking guitar lessons. So far, so good. They can play the first 3-4 notes from Smoke on the Water. Over and over and over.

We order my skinny-waisted son’s pants and jeans from Land’s End. They are the only ones that fit……..the combination of choosing the “slim” size with a back elastic waist and side adjustable elastics works well. We live in Canada and order them from them in the States because we can’t find anything for him here. Order a size longer than needed too, and just roll the bottoms if needed.
Yay for Trouble! Wish I could help with clothes. My son has always had the same difference in waist and length sizes. We’ve just settled for slims, but Children’s Place and Lands End seem to have the best fitting slim sizes. But generally he either has pants that are too short or too baggy. So I too will be watching your comments for other suggestions. : )
Woo Hoo, Trouble!
Target sells adjustable waist pants. My DD1 has a 2T waist and 5T length. We’re having a bear of a time this year.
Gymboree has a slim size online that might work. Hanna Andersson might be place to try as their sizes run tall.
Forget slo-mo, I’d like a pause button occasionally!
Wal-Mart, Target & Land’s End all have slim sizes with the adjustable waists buttons. My little skinny minnie still has to use a belt sometimes, though! Of course, she’s the younger sister of the girl for whom I always had to buy the plus sizes, so forget hand-me-downs. Sigh.
I’d find a 2t that fits well and add funky material cuffs to the bottom to get the length needed. Like blue jeans with camo cuffs, pirate cuffs etc. Of if you need non-blue jeans pants I might have a local mama who sew him nice custom pants.
congratulations on the speaking opportunity!!! you are famous!!:)
Enjoy!
I hear ya about the size discrepancy…one of my little ones is so thin..she fits in 18 months shirts , 3 t pants ……I alter the pants and make it tight for her!
….i also do lot of shopping in India.Somehow Indian clothes fit her very well!
Strange part is she was one pound lighter than her twin at birth and now weighs always heavier than her sister (in march it was almost one pound more) , she gets sick less but the weight is not at all visible on her….she looks pathetically thinner than her sister inspite of it all!!
I dread the day my band students figure out how to play that Smoke on the Water Opening (note…I do not teach it to them!). It is pure torture how they play it over and over but so funny how they think they are just the coolest ever!
)
Yay for your son hitting 30 pounds! I’ve got a 2 year old who has been at 20 pounds since April, so I definitely get it! I just did a post recently about pants for skinny kids, because obviously my son is really skinny too. Several people chimed in my comments too with some great and affordable pants options.
Hoping to make it to one of those blogger conferences. I may also attend Mom 2.0 since it is here in Houston. We’ll see!
I totally get your pants problem…Caleb is size 24 months for shirts/onesies and 12 months for pants. He turned two years back in June and we are praying for the day he makes it to twenty pounds. He is STILL in a rear-facing car seat, the same one he’s been in since he came home from the NICU! So thirty pounds for Trouble…YAY! That is such a blessing! Do you happen to have any secret recipes or food tricks to pack on the pounds?
I love all the room on here! : )
And I didn’t know Blissdom had already gone on sale! I didn’t go last year but my bff and I stalked the whole thing by staying at the same hotel where it was held. I do want to go next Feb!
You can get sizes 4 and 5 in slim from Gap.com. I like to get the bootcut since the baggy styles look weird on my skeletal boy!
VERY COOL about the i_blog conference!!! I think it would be great fun to meet up with local bloggers who totally “get” you neck of the woods and lifestyle. And the headshot idea is fantastic! I know Randy’s going to make some women (b/c I’m assuming it’ll be mostly women) very happy. Everyone deserves at least one fabulous picture of themselves.
And I already got my Blissdom Conf ticket– woohooooo!
Yea, Trouble!
Awesome, awesome news!
WHAT??? I just came over to tell you that I nominated you….oh phoey! And yes, I am going to Blissdom and can’t wait to meet you. I finally moved to WP…your que was filled since way back when, but FiveJ’s did a great job…she’s so sweet. We’re still working out kinks since the blogger to WP feed thing has goofed up my readers. It keeps reverting back to my old URL…so odd.
Oh well, so much for my nomination….I didn’t hit send yet so I’ll go erase your name.
Hey, you are one busy lady!
Hooray for Trouble!!! And I hear you on the size issues. It was ’slims’ all the way through elementary school for my daughter. I felt lucky to find something that would work for her! Sometimes it even meant buying boys slim jeans — especially when the little girl jeans went low-waist. (Don’t get me started on that!)
There were good suggestions in all the comments. Elastic and adjustable waistbands rock! I guess the ultimate option would be get to be good friends with someone who sews! Good luck!
Oh, I forgot to say that your suffering through endless Smoke on the Water is totally worth it for that VERY cool shot of your son. He’s gonna love that picture as he gets older! Nice job.
I can’t help you with the trouble with Trouble’s pants but I sure do empathize. Except my problem is keeping the teenager in pants. He’s grown 5 inches in the last few months. Yes, that’s correct. 5.
There have been some health issues in our extended family so I’ve been looking for the fast-forward on life’s DVD lately. Not that I want to go through all of life that way. except that Heaven awaits, but the last couple of months could sure use some editing if nothing else!
Forget teaching notes on the guitar. All they need are 3 cords and they’ll be able to play “Louie, Louie” over and over again.
But I feel your pain. I always wanted to cringe when the girls were young and taking classical piano lessons only to sit and play “Heart and Soul” repeatedly. I feel your pain, Sister!
Hey for Trouble! No help for ya on the pants~hope you find some.
I would so love to go to the conference, meet you in person and hear you speak! Alas, it’s not to be:(
Smoke on the Water get’s sung a lot around here, or at least a version of it. One day we were listening to the radio and a guy (who wanted to hear Smoke on the Water) called in to request “Slow Walkin’ Walter, Fire Engine Guy.” Really. So you can guess what we sing when someone doesn’t know their lyrics.
OMG my brother played Smoke on the Water ALL the time when he learned to play guitar……..he’s now 43 and still loves to play his guitar♥
I’m working on finding a sponsor for Blissdom!! I SO hope to go!!
