Heart of the Matter Online Conference

by Darcy on July 30, 2009

in homeschool

If you’re thinking I’m posting this under threat of My Cousin Amy, you’d be 100% right. She is one of the co-Amies, I mean the co-creators, of Heart of the Matter Online. And I pretty much do whatever she tells me to do. ‘Cept I’m kind of a slacker contributor-author-writer girl. When approached with this fact, Amy confirmed that I’m only on staff at HOTM for what I bring to the table: charisma and good looks.

daisy girlAugust 3-7 2009 – The very same week as the Not-Back-to-School Blog Hop is the 2nd Annual HOTM Homeschool Conference.

From the site:

“We invite you to join us online for the second annual Heart of the Matter Online Parenting and Home Education Conference.

“What you can expect for only $12.95:

  • Live sessions, entirely online, with some of the homeschooling community’s most popular speakers and authors.
  • Free access to download and save the MP3’s from all the sessions, as well as all the handouts, chat logs, and presentations.
  • Participation in real-time question and answer sessions with all of your favorite speakers.
  • More than $250 worth of freebies in your goodie bag.
  • A chance to win some amazing prizes including a $259 Rosetta Stone software package, a complete Workbox System including shelf and boxes (value $85), and products from Lego…we have over $1200 worth of giveaways!
  • The opportunity to make some new life-long friends and experience some fun and fellowship.”

I “went” last year, and getting to hear Andrew Pudewa speak in real time, as well as be able to ask him my questions is what helped me clinch the deal to invest in the Institute for Excellence in Writing program. I wanted to make sure I felt confident those dollars would be well-spent. And by, “I went”… I really mean: I stayed in my jeans and pony tail and logged in from my laptop to listen all while I bustled around the kitchen, loading the dishwasher and preparing meals. It was the most I’ve ever gained from a clean kitchen!

Karin Katherine is speaking this year – among many other fabulous speakers – and I’m so excited for her. The Not-Back-to-School Blog Hop idea was born in a comment she left on this blog. I’d link you to her blog, but she has about 6 of them… so I’ll link you to two of my favs of hers: Mommy Matters and Young Florida Naturalist’s Guide (both of which I had the honor of designing for her).

So, on behalf of The Amies, Karin and the rest of the HOTM staff (all of whom are much less slackerish than me), I invite you to attend the conference. Please come! I’ll be the one posting charismatic and pretty comments in the chat box.

Oh my. You are so funny. And even though you made me appear to be the bossy one in the family, I think we all know who the real tyrant is. I love you my dear!!

You are such a bossy tyrant, Darcy! Especially how you told us what we had to eat and wear while at the Conference in Cincy.

Remember how she almost made us wear shirts that said “Darcy’s Entourage”?

What?! You didn’t tell them you made me wear a shirt that said, “I work for Amy!”

You both are naughty little things.

ps – Marsha made me drink fake Starbucks.

pss – I kinda liked it.

Remember when you bought me that very strange “hot chocolate” drink from Starbucks that tasted like there was zero chocolate in it? That was my first ever drink from Starbucks.

Yeah, that *fake* Starbucks. I remember…

I was trying to spare you humiliation, Darcy!

At least we were good for crowd control. And for bringing her chocolates.

We had to hide her from the people whispering “oh my goodness, look it’s DARCY!”

I think those were members of the Mafia. The Ohio Mafia.

Thanks for helping me join the witness protection program. I’m so loving living in the arctic tundra. I feel very safe here among the soybeans.

Don’t hate me. Amy made me say that up there! She said OR ELSE!!! And Or Else is very scary. I know that you know what I mean!!!

Oh of course you are Amy! We would never question that. You are the nicest person on the planet. In fact, that ever lived.

(please don’t hurt me.)

Am I really up to six blogs? Is that why I don’t get any sleep at night and my house looks like like a tornado came through? hmmm, at any rate I’m so excited for the HOTM conference AND for the Not-back-to-school blog hop. Cannot wait!

PS
I’ll be looking for your pretty comments at my presentation….

You know, maybe I better register before it starts – unlike what I did with the last conference and ended up missing your session. :(

Y’all are all nuts by the way ~ which is why I like y’all so much.

Yeah, I like Ruthanne, too.

Glad you’re going, gf. I had too much fun giggling with ya’ in the back of the conference rooms. It was 9th grade all over again… and we were the ones passing notes.

I’ll be expecting some witty remarks from Ruthanne in the chat box, too.
