Up.
Trouble learned how to pedal. You’d think by now I’d get over these milestones, but I never do. We have tried and tried and practiced to try and get him to understand the pedal motion. His big brother tries exactly once, and the kid gets it. And I’m the mom clapping and jumping and whooping and hollaring (and wiping a tear or two).
Now Einstein just needs to teach him to steer. I pulled him out of the forest twice, and off the road twice more.
Cala-pillars.

Please no one teach him the right way to say it. Every time he asks about his cala-pillars, it takes everything I have not to scoop him up and love on him for being so stinkin’ cute. We’ve done this experiment with life cycles before, and the bigger boys remember the stages.

Trouble doesn’t remember any of it, and he was so stoked to learn, “Mommy! Mommy! The calapillars’ HEADS popped off!” The older boys were charmed by his exuberance in that sort of big-brother-we-already-know-but-we’ll-humor-you kind of way.
Bellies.

My sweet bloggy friend MJ has a cookie dough business. I did her blog awhile back, and I get to work with her again for another project. And look – just look – what she did:
The pretty package lasted exactly 1.2 nanoseconds. Then, a blur of boys entered the scene.

They were serious about ripping into the package. They politely pretended to be interested in the card though. Isn’t that charming?

Thanks MJ. You made some pretty happy boybarians. I loved loved the chocolate chip ones with pretzels in them Wow. TDF! Trouble loved your Ginger Spice cookies (not to be confused with the British Pop Star!) and said they “taste like Christmas.”
So, anything growing in your neck of the woods?

Those moments are precious. He is so cute in that helmet.
My oldest boy used to call our spare bedroom the “sparrow bedroom” and I still insist on it being called that. I miss those little “isms” in the way my boys used to talk when they were little.
The caterpillars look awesome. I may be dense, but how do you do that? Do you buy a kit somewhere? We’re town people and I wouldn’t know where to find a caterpillar if my life depended on it. Sad, I know.
We just bought a little ant farm and my boys are captivated by it.

We order them here: http://www.insectlore.com/
So fun!
Darcy, Chelsea is 17 years old and I STILL squeel and ooohhh and ahhhh over every single one of her new accomplishments. I don’t think I will ever stop! It took Chelsea a long time to ride a bike too, and once she outgrew training wheels, we ended up getting her a “trike”….it’s large enough for an adult and she LOVES it! She has balance issues and wouldn’t even attempt riding a bike without training wheels.
The cookies look delicious and I love the Cala-pillars!

We just did cala-pillars too! Our “butter-fwy” were beautiful. I had to read The Very Hungry Caterpillar several types throughout the cycle. It was fun & we made a little mini unit for a bit of summer school
Now we’ve moved on to lizard eggs the boys found. At least I hope they are lizard eggs . . .
darling! when my little bit of trouble was undergoing speech therapy his wonderful helper asked if there were any words that I would prefer her to leave alone. It was all I could do not to shoo her out the door. I loved every one of his mispronunciations. There is a reason we have so many stereotypes about the babies of the family….and I think they mostly have to do with Moms and our unwillingness to give up.
Beautifully written and photographed as always!
oh, and also? I am totally in love with your black kitchen cabinets. My dream is to paint everything wooden black. It’s a sickness really.
Oh. Calapillars. I know what you mean. Sometimes I long to hear one of my boys say that he’s all “warm and tumf’table,” not comfortable. Or “God bless Mary and Jofus and little baby Jesus.” I just liked Joseph better when he was “Jofus.” No. No one should teach Trouble to say caterpillar. He’ll know soon enough. And he’ll know how to steer, too. And you’ll be so glad you took these pictures, both with your camera and with your heart.
He pedaled?! He pedaled?!!! :sniff: :sniff: That is so stinkin’ awesome! Way to go!!!
Cala-pillars. *sigh* So sweet. I’d scoop him up too. You do realize that he is going to grow up thinking of mommy always having that look on her face– the one that says “awww… look at my baby and how sweet he is! you are getting so big but you’ll always be my baby” look. Yup. I wonder if he’ll mind it when he gets his drivers license or is old enough to graduate…
Tastes like Christmas could very well be the highest compliment ever paid to a cookie.
You had me at “It tastes like Christmas”! I am so glad that you all enjoyed the cookies and shared the post with others!
Thanks again for all your hard work!

Trouble on that bike is about the sweetest thing I’ve seen a a while!
Have to say I love the cala pillars word too. Mine say that and my daughter still says “pasghetti” and I have not the heart to correct her. I fix it just to hear her say it
WooHoo! Congrats to your little man for his newest accomplishment
