The Best Thing for Photos is…

With a title like that, this post could almost be considered entrapment. ;)

The answer is simple. Sorta.

The best program, system and site for managing, storing, organizing your photos is:

the one you’ll use consistently.

For reals. I’ve said my piece. I’ve shared what works for me. I given several options, but ultimately… if the program that came with your Kodak and Shutterfly is your magic number – then by all means continue to use what you are “fluent” in.

The important thing is this… and only this:

Your photos are essentially hard bound copies of your memories. Do whatever it takes to keep them organized, safe, findable and FUN in a way that you enjoy.

That said, I’ve collected a few sites and blogs here that are the real photo pros. I won’t even attempt to tell you how to take pictures. I might sneak in a few tips and tricks that I dig in Photoshop, Lightroom or Picnik. Someday, I might even publish my Flickr photostream. But there are the people who have put their goods on the internet for you to be inspired, learn, wish, dream….

or, if you’re me… cyberstalk them on your reader.

Confessions of a Pioneer Woman (photography)
Mt. Hope Chronicles
My Home Sweet Home Online (photography)
Hip Momma’s Journal

These pros make a living doing this:

mcp actions blog
Scott Kelby’s blog
Dave Cross Online
Tara Whitney

I am excited to announce that I’ve got some guest bloggers (pros, not me!) who are going to talk about their favorite programs. I’ve got give-aways that make me go *sqquuuuueeeeeeee* and then… lwm3b will resume its normal boybaric antics.

Where do you store (online) all of your pdf (etc) files?

I'm using FileDen (& Google Docs) but is there something better?

Just wanted to say thanks for the inspiration and guidance to do better with my digital photos. Now can you give me a kick in the pants to actually get working on it? :)

Thanks for the heads up on Picnik–I’m a total novice using a really crummy camera (I dropped my new one) but I’ll have to play around.

I hope all of you are keeping warm! I’ve heard it’s a bit chilly out your way.
