I did do one more - once upon a time. I didn't link it in my series, though, because it was quite a timeless as the first three. Since it contained a give away that has long since closed, I should remove the line now about 'another in the series', I suppose.

Glad it was helpful!

Hi Darcy, did you ever make that last installment. I have enjoyed this series and have learned a lot. I love how you break everything down. I am just learning to use my new camera and want to learn to edit photos too. I need simple, so I am glad you recommended picnic because I was thinking of buying the premium. Not a bad price for now. If I gain more of an interest and somehow acquire a whole lot of time (not!) then maybe I will get something bigger. I wondered if you have heard of aperture for Macs and what you think of it. I was trying to download gimp but was having trouble. Oh well, I try picnic for now. Thanks again.

Thanks for all these great tips!

I thought I had my pictures organized well on my computer, and now they feel like a mess - I wish I had them by date like you've done - I think I'll start doing this and maybe I can eventually re-arrange the 3-4+ years I already have on there! LOL

Oh, one question - so you save EVERYTHING you take, or do you delete shots you know are bad before you save?

I have a hard time with taking my pictures in a smaller size, even though I know it's doubtfull I'll get large prints made, I do like to crop, and I'm afraid if I take smaller pictures, I'll lose that option.

Sorry to ramble...........

~Tidymom

Great post, Darcy! I'm huge on having more than one backup copy. Especially cause I've heard a number of stories where people lost their hard drive, and with it, all their photos!

I was so blessed to have a friend give me a 250gig external hard drive a few months back. I plug in every time I upload photos, so they're duplicately (making up new words) copied there as well.

I'm glad to see you putting out this series - it's much-needed information. I would love to have had this available when I moved into the digital world!

My favorite is the one above your fav. Though I need to learn how to do the color pop with black and white.

I have Photoshop. But I have CS2 rather than 3. Got it on ebay for $80. Brand new. Sealed in the box. If people want the big version...and don't want to pay a lot...it's a great way to go.

The big debate Lightroom vs. CS3. Is it because in LR you can have presets and you don't have to do so many layers like in CS3?

Love the 2nd picture and this is all great info.

Thanks for sharing your expertise.

I currently do all of my editing in creating in Microsoft Picture It. I know, I know, it came with the camear several years ago, but it's user friendly, and I'm actually able to do a lot more with it than I ever thought.

I have having a tough time learning PSE6, but I really WANT to!

We have a 500GB hard drive, where we store ALL of our photos, and a LOT of other things too. IT is a lifesaver when it comes to space on the computer!!!

Thanks for all the great info! I'm dying to try out the CS3, but can't quite afford it for awhile.

Angie

I love Picnik. And I am going to a seminar soon that will show me the basics of Photoshop Elements and giving me a copy... I am excited. I have Photoshop, but have NO IDEA how to use it... we have it for work. Any future posts on how in the world you use Photoshop? Or do you know where online I could get a tutorial?

For me right now I'm loving picnik! I love that's it's free and does the basic stuff like crop, red eye and some other fun things. Later I'd love to get a more powerful tool but you can't beat the free aspect of picnik.

Thanks Darcy.

I don't have a lot of money to spend on blog stuff (remodeling a bathroom and kitchen, plus creating a guest bedroom must take priority) so this new hobby of mine doesn't have many funds devoted to it.

That makes you kind of like the blogger's Consumer Report. I am grateful!
